ASA Representatives
Welcome to the Texas ASA Federation.

"I want to Thank all our GREAT Texas ASA shooters for setting another Texas attendance record with over 300 shooters!"-

Mike Smith, Texas ASA Director's comment on the 2010 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP

There have been a few changes for this year including the addition of three new clubs, two new classes, and new Texas Federation rules for moving up in Bow Novice and Open C. We have new South region Area Representatives. The South region will also have a Shooter of the Year program in 2010.

We would like to welcome Tyler Archery Club to the Texas ASA Federation. Tyler Archery Club has a beautiful range in the East Texas piney woods that will feature an array of challenging shots. Tyler is a North region club. We would also like to welcome Concho Valley Archery Association in San Angelo. CVAA is new to ASA but they have been around for many years. Concho Valley has a wonderful range that features true West Texas terrain.  Concho Valley is a South region club.  Another new club that we would like to welcome is Navasot Archery Club in Normangee. They are really excited to be a part of the Texas ASA Federation. Navasot is a South region club.

The Known 45 class was a great success last year at the state and national levels. At the request of many of our female shooters ASA has created a Women’s Known 40 class. The K-40 class competitors will be grouped together or with K-45 shooters. Shooters will be allowed to use range finders on all targets, and NO known distance sheets will be passed out to the shooters in the K-40 and K-45 classes. The other new class is the Youth Pins class. This class was designed to transition youth shooters from NASP and 4-H programs into ASA competition without requiring them to need a target bow, sight/scope, and stabilizer set up to be competitive.

The North region Shooter of the Year competition will be based on the 6 best scores from the 10 North region qualifiers plus the state championship score. Buckles will be awarded to the SOY champions in the North region.
The South region will have a Shooter of the Year competition for the first time in 2010. The SOY total score will be based on the shooters 4 best scores from the qualifiers plus the state championship score. Plaques will be awarded to the SOY champions in the South region until we can establish a buckle fund for the South.

I would like to introduce, Mike and Cari Wagstaff, our new South region Area Representatives. Mike and Cari have shot Texas ASA events for several years. Cari was the Texas ASA Federation Women’s Hunter State Champion and Shooter of the Year in 2009. Mike has been an archer and bowhunter for many years. He competes and hunts with traditional equipment  as well as compound bows. Mike and Cari own Smokin’ Feathers Archery Shop in Livingston, Texas. We are very happy to have Mike and Cari on the Texas ASA Federation team.

We will again be using the ½ known and ½ unknown formats for ALL classes. Targets 1-15 will be known distance targets at all events. Targets 16-30 will be unknown distance targets at all events.

The 14 ring will be scored at all events, on all targets.  We will shoot High 12s for the 15 known distance targets, and Low 12s for the 15 unknown distance targets.

Entry fees will not change for 2010.  $30.00 for all adult classes, $16.00 for Young Adult and Youth classes, $5.00 for all Eagle classes.

We will be posting information concerning Texas ASA Federation events, ASA National events, ASA Indoor events, and day to day Texas ASA news in the forum section of the TASA website. Watch the News and Announcements and Federation Tournament Trail sections and most importantly……Post Up.

In 2009 the Texas ASA Federation led the nation in number of ASA clubs,  number of shooters per qualifier and for the first time Texas had the largest state championship in the nation.  Congratulations to all our shooters for this accomplishment.  We are looking forward to another great year!!

2010 is going to be the Biggest and Busiest year ever for the Texas ASA Federation.  We have 15 qualifiers (statewide) scheduled at this time. We are expecting to have the largest state championship in ASA history this year.  We are looking forward to some very competitive shoots and seeing all of our ASA extended family. We hope to see you all on the Texas ASA Federation Tournament Trail.

Thanks to everyone for making the Texas ASA Federation the best!!!

Special Notice

Rule Amendment: The 2010 move up rule for Open C and Bow Novice has been ammended.

The current rule reads:

If a shooter wins two (2) tournaments during the year or has (3) top (3) finishes (whichever occurs first) they will be required to move immediately into a higher class. The archer that wins the state championship in Bow Novice and Open C will be required to move up for the following  years competition. For example a shooter that shoots out of Bow Novice may move to: Hunter, Open C, or other higher class for the remainder of the season.  A shooter that shoots out of Open C May move to: Open B, Men’s Hunter, Limited or other higher class for the remainder of the season. There will be no Shooter of the Year competition for Bow Novice or Open C.

The ammended rule shall read:

If a shooter wins two (2) tournaments during the year or has (3) top (3) finishes (whichever occurs first) they will be required to move immediately into a higher class. There must be 5 or more shooters competing in the class for this rule to be in effect.

The intent of the rule was to identify the shooters that were consistently excelling and move them up when they reach the move up criteria. In Open C class we have have had one shoot with four shooters, three shoots with 3 shooters and one shoot with 2 shooters. In Bow Novice we have had one shoot with 4 shooters. It is unfair to these shooters that they meet the move up requirement by simply showing up and shooting. If a shooter has met the move up criteria with 5 or more shooters in a class that events counts towards a move up.
